What does this mean for you?

Save on Utility Bills

ENERGY STAR homes make it possible for homeowners to save money each year on their utility bills and maintenance costs.  As a David Powers Homes ENERGY STAR homeowner, you should see a savings in your utility bills each month, resulting in significant annual savings.

Solid Construction

ENERGY STAR certified homes are more efficiently constructed and contain  high efficiency heating and cooling equipment, improved insulation and tighter sealed ducts; preventing heat transfer from hot walls, drafts, noise, dust and pollen.

Healthier Indoor Air

ENERGY STAR homes have tighter sealed air ducts that help keep out dust, pollen, mold, radon and carbon dioxide, enabling homeowners to breathe healthier air.  Most David Powers Homes offer Honeywell Whole House Air Cleaner Media Filters, which are installed on the A/C unit for better air quality and less maintenance.  Fresh air ducts installed in your home provide the proper mixture of outside air filtering seven minutes of each hour for fresh air and exhausting the stale air in your home.  (Community Specific Feature)

Smart Investment

By the end of the decade, more than 2 million homes are expected to earn the ENERGY STAR label.  The trend is clear.  By choosing a David Powers ENERGY STAR home, you can be confident that your home will have an increase in value each year of your home ownership.

Good for the Environment

Almost 20 percent of air pollution results from energy used in homes.  ENERGY STAR homes use significantly less energy, so you can feel good knowing you are doing your part for the environment.

The Certification Process

The first step begins before the home is built.  An independent ENERGY STAR home inspector reviews the home's plans and uses sophisticated software to determine its expected efficiency rating.  homes must achieve a certain efficiency rating score.  After the home is built, the inspector returns to rest for leaks and to measure the overall tightness of the home through the blower door test.  Only if the home passes all these test will it achieve the ENERGY START certificate.

David Powers Homes is one of the only home builders in Houston
that tests every single new home built for ENERGY STAR compliance!
The majority of builders only test every sixth home built.

Green Building

Green building is a catch-all phrase used to describe environmentally friendly construction.  It includes many different aspects of the home, from planting shade trees to save energy to installing water efficient plumbing.  David Powers Homes is one of the first builders in Houston to become a Green Builder.

The Green Building Initiative is driven by a desire to reduce the environmental impact of your home, but at the same time Green Homes offer advantages that are also good for you.  Beginning with less costs to heat, cool and maintain.  They also consider your health because they are built to minimize chemicals, mold and other harmful substances.  They are built for durability, so they require less maintenance.
